History of Pavlograd city begins from 1770 and from the first settlements - Matveev farms located near the Volchiya river. City status Pavlohrad received in 1784, taking its name from the name of the Russian Emperor Paul I. In the Pavlograd`s economy the enterprises of coal mining (PJSC "DTEK Pavlogradugol") and machine-building (OJSC "Pavlogradkhimmash" of plant "Spetsmash", JSC "Machine-tool plant") are dominated. Pavlograd`s educational sector include institutions of Interregional Academy of Personnel Management (MAUP), Pavlohrad medical school, College of the National Mining University of Ukraine, numerous sports institutions.
